Maruti Suzuki Dzire clocks three million production milestone in 17 yrs

Maruti Suzuki has produced over three million units of the Dzire sedan since its launch in 2008, and has exported around 260,000 units to 48 countries.

The Maruti Suzuki Dzire has crossed the three million unit production mark since its launch in 2008. The Dzire is the best-selling sedan in India and has achieved this feat in nearly 17 years – 16 years and 11 months for be precise. Maruti Suzuki Dzire crossed the production mark of one million units in 2015, while the second millionth unit was launched in 2019. Apart from Dzire, Maruti Suzuki Alto, Swift and WagonR also crossed the production mark of three million units.

Dzire’s milestone and legacy
Speaking on the occasion of achieving three millionth vehicle production of Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director and CEO, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, said, “The feedback and support [from customers] inspires us to continuously improve and innovate so that the Dzire exceeds their expectations. The latest Dzire, launched last month, exemplifies this commitment, setting a new standard with its modern design, advanced features and exceptional fuel efficiency. It has contributed significantly to the company’s sales, making it the leader in the sedan segment for 16 consecutive years, Takeuchi said. “I also express my sincere gratitude to our dedicated team members and value chain partners for their tireless work and dedication,” he said.

Evolution of the Maruti Dzire
The Maruti Suzuki Dzire was first introduced in 2008 as the ‘Swift Dzire’, replacing the iconic Maruti Suzuki Esteem. The first generation Swift Dzire was a compact three-door sedan measuring 4,160 mm in length and 1,690 mm in width. The car was initially offered with Maruti Suzuki Swift 1.3-litre petrol and diesel engine options.Later, the Dzire was updated with the 1.2-litre K-series petrol engine to meet the Bharat Stage 4 (BS4) emission norms. In 2012, the model made its transition to the subcompact category to take advantage of the tax benefits announced by the government for vehicles under four metres. These vehicles must be less than four meters long and have an engine capacity of no more than 1,200 cm3 (1.2 liters) for gasoline models and 1,500 cm3 (1.5 liters) for diesel models.

New features and upgrades in Dzire
The third generation Maruti Suzuki Dzire was launched in 2017, when it was based on Maruti’s new Heartect platform. The current fourth generation Dzire was launched in November this year with a 1.2-litre three-cylinder Z-Series engine that complies with the latest BS6.2 emission norms and the model secured a five-star rating in crash tests.The new Dzire also gets a good dose of feature upgrades, including a new Studio SmartPlay infotainment system. 9-inch Pro with premium Arkamys speakers, a head-up display (HUD), auto-dimming IRVM, wireless charging, and a sunroof, among other things. Since 2008, around 260,000 units of the Dzire have been exported to 48 countries.
