- It will be called Jimny Nomade
- and will be equipped with 4-wheel drive as standard.
The Indian-made Maruti Jimny will be launched in Japan next month. This will be the first time in the Jimny’s 55-year history that a five-door model will be offered in its home market. It will be called the Jimny Nomade, which will bear similarities to its Indian counterpart. The feature list is expected to include a touchscreen infotainment system, air conditioning, height-adjustable driver’s seat, and a full LED lighting package. The JDM car will use the old K15B engine, which produces 109 horsepower and 136 Nm of torque, mated to a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission. A 4WD system is standard with a low-range transfer case and the option to shift from 2WD to 4WD. All versions of the Japanese unit will get at least six airbags, a 360-degree camera and ISOFIX mounting points for child seats. At launch, the Japanese market will offer the car in three- and five-door configurations with several powertrain options. Although the Jimny is considered compact in India, it is actually a large car in Japan, exceeding the latest Kei car regulations. Therefore, it will be taxed more than the three-door Jimny.
