The India-made Jimny is currently the second-most exported model for Maruti Suzuki this financial year, having been shipped to over 100 countries, including Japan.
Exports of the five-door Suzuki Jimny made in India began a few days ago and the model was later launched in Japan. Dubbed the Jimny Nomad, theoff-road SUV was expected to receive a good initial reception due to the popularity of the iconic nameplate. However, the booking figures were far beyond the data.In an unprecedented move, the Jimny Nomad registered 50,000 bookings in just four days, prompting the brand to temporarily suspend bookings. Accepting that the order book has exceeded the volumes expected for Japan at least initially, the brand is working hard to meet the demand and deliveries to its customers will begin in early April 2025.The five-door Jimny has already been well received in international markets like Australia, Mexico and South Africa. The SUV is manufactured at Maruti Suzuki’s manufacturing facility in Haryana, India and has seen good volumes in the country since its launch. Its strong sales figures mean that it is currently the second best-selling Maruti Suzuki model in overseas markets.Maruti Suzuki has maintained its strong export presence by shipping over 3.23 lakh vehicles globally during the last calendar year. Holding a 43.5% share in Indian passenger vehicle exports, the company has been expanding its reach in Africa, Latin America and Asia. The positive response to the Fronx in Japan also bolsters its export strategy. In Japan, the Jimny Nomad is priced between 26,51,000 and 27,50,000 yen (approximately Rs. 14.86 to 15.41 lakhs). It is powered by a 1.5L four-cylinder petrol engine with a choice of a five-speed manual transmission or a four-speed automatic transmission with Suzuki’s AllGrip 4WD system and a low-range transfer case on offer.The K15B petrol mill produces a maximum power of 109 PS and 136 Nm of peak torque. The equipment list includes a touchscreen infotainment system with connectivity options, automatic climate control, circular LED headlights, six airbags, a 360-degree camera system, a height-adjustable driver’s seat and more.
